The CDC and FDA agree that lemon eucalyptus is more effective than DEET in repelling mosquitoes.
According to a study done at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom, lemon eucalyptus provided 96.89 percent protection compared to 84.81 percent DEET repellent.
A New England Journal of Medicine study revealed that lemon eucalyptus provided 120.1 minutes of protection compared to 88.4 minutes of a 4.75% DEET repellent.
The oil for lemon eucalyptus is made from the leaves of the Eucalyptus citriodora plant.
