Environmentally Safe Mosquito Control

Every summer towns, cities, and even tiny villages spray poisonous insecticides to control mosquitoes. Safer ways need to be encouraged.

Repellents with Deet, Avon Skin So Soft, citronella candles, coils and lamps all help repel mosquitoes to some degree.

But the goal of having fewer mosquitoes in the environment is a better goal if possible.

Scientists say that the best way to lower the mosquito population is to prevent them from breeding, which means removing standing water from places where water stagnates. Old tires, children's swimming pools, flower pot saucers etc. are all possible mosquito hatcheries. Some cities are even opening a hot line for homeowners to report any standing water they may see.
